What to Wear: Family of Four Edition

One big stress for a lot of families centers around wardrobe- ‘what on EARTH will we wear?!?’  So once a month (or more if I get a special request) I’ll post What to Wear with ideas and inspiration that you might use for your family.

I try to keep my choices within a just a few stores that are readily accessible so if you wanted to buy everything you could go to just a few stores.  In this installment everything is available online from GAP, Old Navy, Piperlime and ModCloth.

This wardrobe shows off one element I like to keep in mind when planning a wardrobe- colour, pattern, texture, shine.  Thanks to Clinton Kelley of What NOT to Wear for that little ditty!

If you look, each member on their own has a pop of colour.  The patterns come in with the owl print dress, and the gingham on the shirts of dad and son.  Textures are brought in with the cable knit scarf and boy’s sweater as well as the little girl’s ruffled denim skirt.  Finally shine- that little extra oomph and interest- brass buttons and belt buckle on mom’s coat, red sparkly shoes for the little miss and a little red bow-tie on big brother.

Together they look cohesive thanks to the shared palette of red-brown-blue.  The patterns are appropriately scaled and used sparingly enough that they don’t compete.  Any of these outfits would look great on their own, but they also look great together or with any pairing of two or three.

Special Tip: Myself, I always like to start by shopping my closet and see what I already have that I love.  This can be especially helpful if your wardrobe budget isn’t very big.  Sometimes just shopping your closet, you can put together almost your whole wardrobe and just grab a few pieces.  I also HIGHLY recommend not wearing for your session items you won’t re-wear later.  Buy items that are comfortable and your style that you can wear long after you have your photos taken.

If you need help planning your wardrobe before your Lunaria Photography photo session, I am more than happy to help out and offer guidance.  One of the many perks of my custom photography experience.
